News paper layout/Weekly
104 newspaper issues a year. 12 monthly special tab sections, plus holidays, schools, and events tab.
One of my major duties for this company was to pro-actively work and continuously keep the process running of the lay-out for two news papers every week, 52 editions per year.
This entailed creating new ads, Formatting and creating public notices, and collecting content from the editors to create an edition every press day. Working with sales, county auditors, and clients through out the week to ensure all ads and paid content was accounted for using excel spreadsheets and communication through proofing and emails with sales.
Monday, I worked with the editors of one newspaper. Collecting their stories and photos and I would lay-out one 12-16 page newspaper. Proof the paper with the editors and have files sent to press by a 7pm deadline.
Tuesdays, I worked with a second set of editors for a different newspaper and repeated the previous days process. Creating an 18 page newspaper. With a deadline of the same day.
This job requires a high level of discipline and dedication to maintain smooth operation. Constant clear communication, established work processes, and flexibility with design layout and high Adobe knowledge and skill use.
Twice a week I was challenged to take a large volume of unknown content and use my design skills and Adobe software experience and knowledge, to put together print files at a speed that requires the use of all of the creative cloud app functions.
When time allowed, I would also use the editor’s content to create social media reels for the editions, in between printing and delivery of the newspapers. That we would post on social media the day before the release of the e-edition and physical copy of the paper.
This job also included working with ad-pro and using a wordpress website. I uploaded e-editions and ads to the websites.
During my time working for Mid-America publishing I created the Clear Lake Mirror Reporter, Buffalo Center Newspaper, and the Garner Leader papers in Iowa. Clear Lake being the paper that was always assigned, and the others added and changed as time went on.
Home Buyer’s Guide/Monthly
The Home Buyer’s Guide is a 12-16 page tab sized catalog of the local realtor’s properties. I update the design, prices, and ads before every deadline.
I create several other special sections including Veteran’s Day and Holiday issues during the calendar year.
Enjoy Magazine/Periodically
A full sized magazine printed once a year. Focusing on providing the City’s local and tourist’s information. I design, layout, and create the ads for this team project.
Home Buyer’s Guide
This guide prints once a month and consists of 12-16 pages. Consisting images, descriptions and prices of homes in the local realty market. I update the listings, design, ads, and content every month as part of my duties for Mid America Publishing.
